Interventional techniques improve patient care
As endoscopic procedures continue to advance, Charlotte Gastroenterology remains committed to assuring that these advances are made available to our patients under the care of an outstanding team of medical professionals. Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) is one such technology that has seen a tremendous growth in its application in diagnosing and treating gastrointestinal problems, particularly when used in conjunction with endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP).
In the summer of 2012, Charlotte Gastroenterology & Hepatology added Dr. Eric Stone to the practice as an EUS/ERCP specialist. Dr. Stone feels fortunate that the medical profession has provided him the opportunity to help people through skillful and empathetic care. After graduating from Indiana University School of Medicine, Dr. Stone completed his internal medicine residency at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He then completed his fellowship at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine in Albuquerque, where he also received his training in EUS and ERCP.

Areas of particular focus include therapeutic biliary and pancreatic endoscopy, utilization of endoscopic ultrasound, and the use of radiofrequency ablation to treat Barrett’s esophagus.” -Dr. Stone
EUS with ERCP can be used to identify biliary tract gallstones, diagnose diseases of the liver, bile ducts, and pancreas as well as determine causes of abdominal pain or jaundice. It can also remove bile duct stones and place stents in the bile or pancreatic ducts. Combining EUS and ERCP can prevent the patient from having to come back to undergo additional procedures.
